Children’s Friend is the grateful recipient of a $15,000 grant from the Greater Worcester Community Foundation’s Community Grant program to support its Gender Wellness Initiative. Sixty-one percent of Massachusetts high school youth who identify as sexual minorities report depressive symptoms from the stresses of isolation, bullying, parental rejection and bias, while 10% of those surveyed said they made a suicide plan. Children’s Friend will use these granted funds to provide counseling services through our outpatient mental health clinic; offer support groups and information to the families of transgender and gender non-conforming youth; and training to school personnel and health care providers on working with LGBTQ youth in a supportive and non-judgmental manner. Thank you so much to the Greater Worcester Community Foundation for their amazing support!
