I am so humbled to be recognized as a Seven Hills Champ in the month of June! I have no clue how this happened, but I do know that what I put forth is who I am, simply me! I love life—to laugh, have fun, and make the best of every situation. Over the past few years, my life has been extremely chaotic working full time, attending nursing school, and helping my family through major medical situations. All I can do is show up and give it my all! My job at the Seven Hills Pediatric Center (SHPC) at Groton has taught me so much. At first, during orientation, I was hesitant and scared. I just did not know what to think. Then I met Beth Atkinson on my final day of orientation, and it was her training that sealed the deal. Beth’s love and genuine attention to the residents and what she expressed that day sits very close to my heart and I shared her joy. Her training was exactly what I needed to give it my best and words cannot express how thankful I am that I did! I have worked in every aspect of nursing over my 21 years in the medical field and I truly wish I had joined SHPC long before I did. The children and adults have taught me so much and I have achieved levels of joy I never thought possible. I love to talk, and my biggest fear was how to talk to the residents if they could not respond to me. (That is not easy for someone who loves to talk). Beth taught me how to communicate nonverbally. And the residents communicate in their own way, genuinely blessing us with unconditional love. I learned not to focus on what I felt was a shortcoming and realized it is not about me. It is about the residents. I had to learn to remove myself and listen to what they had to say. They welcomed me into their lives and gave me the opportunity to just be myself and see how beautiful life can be! It warms my heart at the amazing life they are given every day. My levels of gratitude are so high that I get to be a part of the residents’ lives and the entire Seven Hills community.
