Open Door Arts, an affiliate of Seven Hills Foundation, is generously funded by community partners, supporting its mission to increase access, participation, and representation of people with disabilities in the arts.
The work of Open Door Arts is driven by research and data that show participation in the arts helps students with and without disabilities showcase their strengths; increase their sense of autonomy and agency; express their thoughts and ideas; and access learning. In addition, it shows that students with disabilities experience greater success at inclusive schools where they have access to ongoing arts instruction and learn a variety of art forms. Open Door Arts puts this knowledge into action through its school programs, Open Door Gallery, professional development, and community engagement, empowering the next generation of employees, leaders, and artists with disabilities to explore creative careers while learning artistic skills; artists with disabilities to share their work with the community; and cultural organizations to become more accessible to patrons and employees with disabilities by engaging with resources, training, and research.
