Ten thousand U.S. baby boomers turn 65 every day. When they blow out the candles on their cakes, most will still be doing so in their own homes. When they make a wish? Statistics hint that for those celebrating this milestone, it could be “to age in place for as long as possible.”

We celebrate the legacies, accomplishments, and contributions of Black and African Americans across history. This is a time for continued action to tackle racism, ensure representation and celebrate black heritage all year round. To honor this significant day, we recognize African Americans who have impacted not just the country, but the world with their activism and achievements, whose lives and careers have paved the way for future generations. Black history is being made every day, in all kinds of ways.

Children’s Friend would like to express their most sincere thanks to The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation for the generous Catalyst Fund grant of $4,270 to train additional clinicians in providing specialized Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Children’s Friend’s clinicians treat children and youth who are self-injurious through the DBT program by moving them from crisis to stability through teaching and strengthening the skills of mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

In just six months, Cassandra “Cassie” Miller has stepped into the newly created Activities Specialist position at Seven Hills NeuroCare’s Burncoat residence and is transforming possibilities into achievements for its residents with acquired brain injury (ABI). Their abilities vary widely and it’s Cassie’s challenge to uncover the latest assistive technology or resource to nurture interests and attain goals.
